ADC Gubernatorial Aspirant, Akinbade Promises to End LAUTECH crisis

The governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Engr Fatai Akinbade has promised to put an end to the lingering financial challenge of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) if elected in the September 22, 2018 poll.

He gave this assurance on Friday at an interactive session with journalists in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

It will be recalled that LAUTECH, which is jointly owned by Osun and Oyo states has, for years, been battling with the financial challenge which forced the academic staff to embark on industrial action that lasted several months

The crisis has also forced the Academic Staff Union of Universities in Nigeria to recently embark on a warning-strike that could lead to a nation-wide strike if the problem is not effectively addressed.

While exposing his manifesto to journalists across Osun, the former Secretary to the State Government wondered while two states could not finance a single university, whereas a single state does sponsor many institutions.

“It is still unfathomable to me that two states of Osun and Oyo cannot sustain the first state university of technology in Nigeria. After all, Osun and Oyo have about five or more higher institutions and are able to sustain them financially.

If I become the governor, I will ensure I display a high level of responsibility and teamwork spirit by working assiduously and seamlessly with whoever emerges as the next governor of Oyo State,” he said.

Voters should watch out for integrity

Akinbade enjoined voters to resist the urge to sell their votes by refusing to collect money from randy politicians. He advised the electorates to vote candidates whose integrity is still intact

The tripod of good governance is accountability, transparency and due process; and these shall be the pivot on which my administration will rest and operate.

“I have what it takes. I had been a Secretary to the state government, a civil engineer, a contractor, a works commissioner and a consultant among many.”

ADC governorship aspirant promised to re-engineer the Free Trade Zone that will be fortified with massive infrastructures and where the government will stand surety for entrepreneurs who are willing to establish industries. He said the initiative will also create jobs and employment for people.

“This is how the Federal Government stood surety for Aliko Dangote in the establishment of Obajana Cement company which assisted him and lifted him into the realm of financial reckoning worldwide,” he said.

Akinbade stressed that his sterling qualities which stood him out among his peers made former president Olusegun Obasanjo and his ex-boss, former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola to give him the platform of ADC to contest the September 22 election.
