How To Move From A Crappy Writer To An Exceptional Writer Within A Short Time Frame | By Angela Ibukunoluwa Komolafe

In my post, I said when you are just starting out, it doesn’t matter if your writing is crappy. After all, every professional was once an amateur.

However, it matters a great deal if your writing still remains crappy after a long while.

This is why you must make a deliberate effort to move from being a crappy writer to an exceptional writer.

Here is how to go about it.

1- Get Clarity.

Getting clarity is one of the fundamental steps to take if you want to become an exceptional writer.

Clarity gives you focus, direction, and speed. It saves you from wasting your time, efforts and resources on trial and error.

The reason why a lot of people are not making progress is not that they are lazy, it is because they focusing their time, resources and efforts on the wrong things.

This is why if you want to become an exceptional writer within a short time frame, you need to get clarity before getting started.

You need to get clarity on:

What kind of writer do you want to become?

I know you want to become an exceptional writer. But that’s not clear enough. What kind of exceptional writer do you want to become?

Do you want to become a fiction writer or a nonfiction writer?

Why do you want to become a writer?
What is the underlying reason?
Is it for the aim of making money, receiving accolades or making an impact?

What niche do you want to focus on?
What do you want to write about?
Do you want about the relationship or personal finance?

Who is your target audience?
Who do you want to focus your writing on? Single or married? Entrepreneurs or employees?

Don’t jump from one thing to another.

3- Start Deliberate Learning

If you want to become an exceptional writer within a short time frame, you mustn’t only become an insatiable learner, you must also become a deliberate learner.

Don’t just learn for the sake of learning.
Don’t learn haphazardly. Be deliberate about it.

Write down your areas of weakness and make a plan to learn about each of them.

If your grammar is weak, that should be your learning focus.

You should also learn about your niche.
Learn about their audience pain points and the solutions to them.

If you learn this way, not only will your writing improve, you’ll be able to churn out valuable contents.

Don’t just learn, put what you are learning into practice and teach others.

4- Write On A Consistent Basis

Notice I didn’t say you should write every day. If you don’t have the capacity and the time to write every day, then don’t.

Whether it is once a week, twice a week, thrice a week, or every day of the week, it’s OK as long as you are sure that you’ll be consistent.

So decide on how many numbers of days you want to be writing each week and stick to it.

5- Evaluate Your Progress

Whatever that is not measured and evaluated will not get improved.

If you want to improve your writing skill and become an exceptional writer, you need to put a system in place to measure your progress.

You can do this through personal evaluation. But the best way to do this is through the help of a coach or mentor.

This is because they are already experts in what you are doing. So they know when you are improving and when you are not.

You must continuously work on improving your writing skills. You must continuously update your knowledge. Also, you must continuously write and dish out valuable contents to your audience. You must continuously evaluate your progress and get better.

That’s it!
