FOUR MOST IMPORTANT MEDICAL TESTS BEFORE SAYING I DO | By Immaculata Ebube
We need to be very careful with our lives especially when it has to do with our health. Marriage is a lifetime commitment and before tying that nut to avoid pain and regrets in marriage we need to take precautions for many things.
Getting to know your partner’s medical history does not imply that the marriage is in trouble but to enable you to take proper care if the need arises.
Though many don’t like going for the test, however, it will be better. It will also save you a lot of stress and pain later in the marriage.
Here are some important medical tests every intending couple needs to undergo:
1- HIV and Other Sexual Transmitted Diseases (STDs) Test:
This is a very important test to undergo, it will be better to know the status of your partner to avoid unnecessary stress, HIV, hepatitis B and C, are a life long disease which lives with the individual till death except for Gods intervention in some cases. It’s always better to know in order to protect yourself and seek medical care.
Other STDs like gonorrhoea, syphilis, vaginosis, wart and other related infection can be treated with proper medical care. This will reduce the risk of infertility and miscarriages.
2- Blood Group and Rhesus Disease Test:
Blood groups need to be compatible with each other to avoid problems during pregnancy like Rhesus disease. This is a condition where antibodies in a pregnant woman destroy her baby’s blood cells.
Women with rhesus negative blood group married to rhesus positive husbands have a greater chance of rhesus incompatibility where the growing fetus takes after the father in the blood group causing this problem, leading to miscarriages.
3- Fertility Test:
These issues can be addressed as early as possible without causing unnecessary psychological, social, and emotional trauma associated with barrenness.
4- Genetic or chronic medical condition:
This test depends on the type of chronic/genetic conditions seen in society. This test includes diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease and many others. It should all be tested to avoid regret and unnecessary emotional trauma.
All these might not sound too important, but they are very necessary, and it will save a lot of stress before you say I do please be tested.
