Recognition of June 12 as Democracy Day, Restoration of a lost Glory – Raifu Mumini Olabamiji

The APC aspirant in the forthcoming 2018 governorship election in Osun State, Raifu Mumini Olabamiji, has commended President Muhammad Buhari for recognizing the valuable and inestimable significance of the June 12. He commended President Buhari for honouring the Late Moshood Abiola by declaring June 12 as the genuine democracy day in Nigeria.

Mumini Olabamiji, however, lauded Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as the man who upholds the June 12 as the democracy day before the president stamped it as the real Democracy Day. He said Ogbeni Aregbesola deserves some accolades. He said the recognition of the June 12 symbolizes the sacrifice many Nigerians have made to establish democracy in this country.

Raifu Mumimi Olabamiji said, the revalidation of the June 12, 1993 presidential election by President Muhammadu Buhari is welcomed and should be seen as a restoration of a lost glory.

The late MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, died in prison in 1998. He was detained by the then military government for declaring himself president after the election.

Raifu Mumini: “I want to join all democratic Nigerians to welcome the beautiful news that June 12 will replace the May 29 as the Democracy Day. This is a commendable effort from President Buhari for making this rightful decision and proud moment for Nigeria.”

Raifu Mumimi Olabamiji said; “The national honour of GCFR given to MKO Abiola and his then running mate, Babagana Kingibe with the second highest honour of GCON is a well-deserved gesture from President Buhari. The Revalidation of the June 12 as the Democracy Day in Nigeria should be seen as the restoration of a lost glory.”

The Governorship aspirant continued: “It is crystal clear that Chief Moshood Abiola and others in the past gave their lives to establish the democracy we are enjoying today. President Muhammad Buhari will forever be remembered for this courageous decision he took.”

He furthered: “Chief MKO won the fairest and freest election in the history of Nigeria. The June 12 election was massive without any tribal or religious sentiment. Therefore, June 12 is a symbolic day in our history.”

“However, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola should be lauded as the first governor in Nigeria let alone the South West that recognizes and celebrates the June 12 as the Democracy Day. Today, the sacrifice made by MKO Abiola has been recognized by President Buhari. Aregbesola is a true symbol and an icon of good governance. Our iconic Ogbeni Aregbesola deserves some accolades.” He concluded.
