Under the stars, on a cold evening
You came into this world omoò mi, my blood and water clothing your flawless skin
The owls hooting lightly as if to celebrate your arrival.
You were all I had in the world,
Your father was on an endless journey to the world beyond
I named you Morénikéjì, I have found a twin.
We roamed the earth alone,
You firmly strapped to me solid back,
Your little frame reassuring me.
Admist all hopelessness,
Your soft cry gave me hope
Your presence was my assurance
that everything in time will fall in place,
And the flower I dedicated all my youth to
Will one day blossom.
Dreams do come true omoò mi
Mine was for you to transcend the world you grew up in.
