Analysis of Osun PDP Governorship Aspirants from Iwoland By Yusuff Mutalub Ola-Gold
The PDP Political party in Osun State has many governorship aspirants jostling to raise the party flag. The party could also favour an aspirant from the West Senatorial District of Osun State. This post will analyse the strength of each candidate from Iwo Land.
PDP has been the opposition for the 8 years administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola. Will PDP defeat the current administration to get back to Abere?
Let’s go through the strength analysis of the PDP governorship aspirants from iwo land below.
2. Dr Amidu Tadese
Dr Tadese is a grassroots politician of great repute. He was elected to represent Iwo state Constituency at Osun State House of Assembly in 1991 where he served as a chief whip and member of various committees including Education, Social Services, Finance, commerce and cooperative.
Hon Amidu Tadese is a political scientist and holds PhD in Public Administration from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.
He’s currently the Ag Head of Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Fountain University, Osogbo.
Dr Tadese is a Prince from Iwo and a thorough breed politician for decades. He was one-time assistant organizing secretary of the defunct SDP in the old Oyo State. Also, he served as a member of various boards including the Osun State Property Development Corporation between 2000 and 2003. He has a wide experience in governance and administration having been trained both in Nigeria and abroad.
Prince Amidu Tadese left APC recently to join the gubernatorial race on the platform of PDP, a party he was a founding member in Iwo local government. It is being rumoured he’s being sponsored by the top echelon of PDP in Northern Nigeria and he has declared recently in an interview that he’s going to spring a surprise during his party primary.
Olawale Rasheed is one aspirant I love with my heart. He’s a media guru and a veteran journalist.
Mallam Olawale Rasheed obtained Bachelors of Art in the English Language from University of Ilorin, Kwara State and his Masters degree from the University of Abuja in Public Administration.
Olawale Rasheed worked with different media house in Nigeria before he finally settled at Tribune Newspapers where he rose to the position of Group Political Editor. He’s the CEO of Sahel Media Group and the Publisher of Sahel Standard Newspaper. He’s a resourceful and hardworking journalist who has transverse the entire country and beyond in political reportage.
Mallam foray into politics started from his tender age, being a son of an astute politician, Late Pa Bilawu Akanji Olode, a strong member of Action Group. His father was one of the founding members of Action Group and Iwo and district. He took after his father and took part in party struggles right from the defunct PSP, SDP, UCNP, AD and finally PDP.
He has paid his due in the political arena after working for a quite number of big shots in the political space including Senator Olu Alabi where he served as his Media Director when he was the Board Chairman of Federal Capital Development Authority. In 2007, he served as Special Assistant to Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, the position he used to facilitate employment to Osun Youth.
Olawale Rasheed is the founder of Olawale Rasheed Foundation, a humanitarian organization that has helped in alleviating poverty from Osun and Nigeria at large.
Olawale Rasheed is a new breed politician who is bringing dynamism to governance in Osun. He stated this during one of his interviews. He said, “our people seek new face, new age leadership, a breath of fresh air, not aspirants that are part of the problem rather than solution”
Mallam Olawale Rasheed is confident of winning come September if his party pick him as their candidate. He said, “Now is the time for a successor generation to aspire and be supported to lead the state. I am one of the many children of the PDP. Our fathers should support us to take the mantle of leadership. The overwhelming majority of voters in Osun state are fed up with the old political elite. If you want to beat APC next year, you should present a successor generation of leader within PDP. Without that, we may be digging for another failure.
The PDP leaders will be insulting the voters and underrating their intelligence if they fail to consciously work to produce a candidate from the right zone, with new age outlook and with unblemished records. It is a lie to affirm that Osun people want to ‘change the change’ at all cost. While they want to change, they are not ready to jump from frying pan to fire. The PDP can only become a viable option for the people when it demonstrates a true, not cosmetic break from the past.”
Olawale Rasheed is one aspirant to beat with his wealth of experience and political clout within the power broker in PDP.
3. Otunba Adebayo Waliyullah Rovet
Adebayo Waliyu Ademola Oladosu, is a greenhorn in politics but ever since he entered the race, he has surprised many with his political moves and progress in actualizing his dream of becoming the next Osun state governor.
Born 50 years ago in Iwo, Otunba Adebayo Rovet has both OND and HND from Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin. He had Masters in Business Administration from University of Benin, Edo State.
Otunba Rovet worked with a good number of the establishment including West Africa Batteries Limited, Bendel Breweries Limited before he left for Germany to work with Sigma-Aldrich Group. He worked with the company for few years before he resigned to found his own company, Moladex Multilinks Enterprises and become one of the major distributors of the company (Sigma-Aldrich Group).
The Babalaje of Igbo-Elerin is an accomplished entrepreneur of international repute. He’s Chairman of many flourishing establishments- Odee Nigeria Limited, Orbital Scientific Limited, Afrique Limited. He’s also the CEO, Rovet Scientific Nigeria Limited.
Otunba Waliyullah Adebayo Rovet is a certified administrator. He’s a lover of sport and he’s currently the Chairman of Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, Osun State Chapter. He’s also the Chairman /Founder of Rovet Football Academy.
Otunba Rovet is contesting on the platform of PDP. When asked about his chances during an interview he stated “I am not a desperate man but there is no crime in being ambitious. God will choose. In both the APC and PDP, if you put the contestants together, only one person will become the governor and only God knows that person. But if you are not part of the game, you cannot win.”
“About my chances, I leave everything to God. I also believe something will work for me. If you want to be fair in politics, and we have to obey zoning, Osun Central has done it during the tenure of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Osun East, IfeIjesha, is doing it now with the incumbent, and the zones are just three, it’s the turn of Osun West where I hail from. To me, that is an advantage. Although in Osun West, there are many contestants both in the PDP and APC, it is God that will choose. And I’m confident of winning by God’s grace”
The OSUN PDP is set to lift the ban on political activities in the state in few weeks. Let’s wait and see the flow of the game.
OSUN PDPD governorship aspirants will fight for the main ticket at the primary level soon.
