What Comes To People’s Mind When Your Name is Mentioned? | By Angela Ibukunoluwa Komolafe
When people mention your name, what is the first thing that comes to their mind?
If you are not able to answer this question, you need to read this.
You see, all the successful and influential people you admire and want to be like are known for ONE THING.
Edirin Edewor is known for online publishing.
Remi Owadokun is known for storytelling.
Stephanie Obi is known for online courses.
Mute Efe is known for personal leadership.
Victor Bassey is known for tribe building.
Emenike Emmanuel is known for blogging.
Do you know the interesting thing?
Apart from the ONE THING most of the people are popularly known for, they have other successful businesses they are running.
So, if you are afraid that focusing on just ONE THING will hinder you from pursuing your other passions and interests, you have nothing to fear.
But you first have to build a formidable brand and unrivaled influence in ONE THING after which you can diversify to other areas.
How do you become known for ONE THING?
Though there are many things you can do to achieve this. However, for you to become known for ONE THING within a short period of time, you need to be FOCUSED and CONSISTENT.
First, you need to be focused on a subject matter.
To build your credibility and make people know, like and trust you, you need to prove to them that you have expertise in a particular subject matter.
And one the fastest and most effective ways to achieve this is to be focused and consistent in learning and teaching about a particular subject matter.
When you focus on learning and teaching about a subject matter on a consistent basis, you will develop expertise in no time and people will start associating you with it.
Another thing you need to focus on is the target audience.
The truth is that not everyone will listen to you no matter how good and competent you are. A woman trying to conceive will not listen to a dentist no matter how competent he is. The reason is that the dentist’s expertise cannot solve her problem. If you are not focusing on the right audience, it just likes chasing after the wind. You’ll not get the right result no matter how much you try.
In choosing your target audience, make sure they are willing and able to pay for your expertise. To do this, ask yourself these questions:
- What is my expertise?
- What subject matter do I want to become an expert in?
- What problems can I solve with my expertise?
- Who are the people that have these problems?
- Do they have the financial capacity to pay for my solutions?
The right answers to these questions will help you a great deal in choosing the right target audience.
Lastly, you need to focus on a PLATFORM. There are many platforms out there.
We have social Media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn Snapchat, YouTube, Pinterest. There is also the blogging platform and the email list.
You cannot focus on being visible on all these platforms at the same time. What you can do is to choose just one or two platforms to focus on. The platform you choose is going to be determined by where your target audience is highly concentrated.
If your target audience is largely on Facebook, don’t go and pitch your tent on Twitter. If your target audience loves to hang out on Instagram, don’t go build your visibility on LinkedIn. Find out the platform your target audience congregates and focus on building your visibility there.
Quit running around in a circle. It’ll lead you to nowhere
Quit doing a lot of things at the same time. You won’t achieve much that way.
Rather, BE FOCUSED.
Be focused on the subject MATTER.
Be focused on a TARGET AUDIENCE.
Be focused on a PLATFORM.
What are the subject matter, the target audience and the platform you are focusing on?
What are the struggles and challenges you’re facing?
