To travel by road from Nigeria is very easy only if you follow the instructions. Since all the land borders are closed due to the corona pandemic. Below, I will explain how you will travel with no stress Nigeria to Côte D’Ivoire (Abidjan).

From Lagos state, take a car going to Sango Otta which cost 2500 naira or 2000 depending on the situation of the country. On getting to Sango ask for Bus to go to Idiroko which is the border of Nigeria and the Benin Republic. Mind you we have 2 main borders, one is in Badagry Road while the second is Idiroko road.

The Badagry road is bad and with many checkpoints, this will make the journey stressful. Going to Idiroko from Sango Otta the journey will cost you N1500. It is always advisable to travel with your identity card to be free from questions from immigration officers on the road.

When you get to Idiroko, just give a bike man N1000 to help you cross the border to Benin Republic parking. This N1000 you gave him will be used to settle the immigration officers at the border. Now, you are no more in Nigeria. You are in the Benin Republic.

At the parking, tell them you are looking for a car going to Togo (Ilakonji border (Benin/Togo) which is 3,000 CFA. Note that from the moment you cross the Nigerian border, you have to change all the Naira in your hand to CFA which is the currency of all the french-speaking countries of West African countries.

At the border of Benin republic/Togo, you should prepare 2,000 CFA for the immigration officers. Try to ask for the parking of Aflao that is the Benin Republic and Togo border. The transport fee should be around 3,000 CFA. On getting to Aflao, look for a bus going to Elubou or Eloubou which is Ghana/Cote d’Ivoire Border, the transport there is 10 Cedis (Ghanaian currency) it is equivalent to 10,000 CFA.

Mind you, this journey is a 24 hours journey before you reach the border and you should prepare at least 5000 CFA for their immigration sometimes 10,000 CFA. When you get to Eloubou which is Ghana/Cote d’Ivoire border, try to move closer to someone that understands English so that you will cross to Noé which is cote d’Ivoire. Elubou is the border from Ghana while Noé is the border from cote d’Ivoire.

On getting to Noé takes a direct bus to Abidjan which is 5,000 CFA. they will drop you in Trechville and from there you can go anywhere you want but between Noé to Abidjan, you will spend 5,000 CFA on immigration and customs, all because you are a foreigner.

With these simple instructions above, you can easily travel from Nigeria to Côte D’Ivoire without stress.

1. Always find people that are Nigerians in the bus to relate with them till you reach your destination.

2. Do not help anybody to take load or baggage even if it’s small nylon. This is because some people usually travel with hard drugs which they can use to implicate you.

3. It’s advisable for you to get a consular identity card (ID CARD) at Nigeria embassy in cote d’Ivoire if you reach Abidjan. It’s 5000 CFA.

The exchange rate of 1000 CFA is between N750 to N890.
